How an SSD stores data with trapped electrons
Every file on your SSD is a pattern of trapped electrons.
Each flash cell has a tiny insulated trap. A high voltage pushes electrons in, and they stay there with the power off. To read it, the drive puts a smaller voltage on the cell and checks if current flows: an empty cell lets it through, a charged one blocks it.
A TLC cell holds one of eight charge levels, so each one stores three bits. The eight cells in this film really do spell SSD. Save it for later.
