Why computers count in 0s and 1s (it's about noise)

Computers count in twos because two levels survive noise and ten don't.

A wire carries a voltage, and every voltage wobbles a little. Squeeze ten levels onto one wire and a wobble lands on the wrong one about a quarter of the time in this model. With only on and off, the same wobble never gets close to the line.

Save it for the next time someone asks why binary.
