What your phone's signal bars mean: each bar is 10 times weaker

One bar isn't a quarter of four bars. It's a thousand times weaker.

The bars show how much of the mast's signal reaches your phone. On Android the steps between bars are 10 dB, and every 10 dB is ten times less power. So each bar you lose keeps only a tenth of the signal.

Send it to whoever keeps walking round the room for one more bar.
