At rest, a healthy heart beats about 60 to 100 times a minute. Across a whole day, that adds up to about 100,000 beats. Keep that up for 80 years and it’s nearly 3 billion. Every minute, your heart pumps nearly 1.5 gallons (5.7 liters) of blood, and it never takes a day off.
The chest and heart in this video come from a real CT scan. The line at the bottom is a real heart recording (an ECG) from a healthy 23-year-old at rest, and the heart glows on each of those real beats. The squeeze and glow are an illustration.
